Objectives
After completing this section, you should be able to do the following.
-
Identify the slope and vertical intercept of a linear function \(f(x)=mx+b\) from its formula, table of values, or graph, and interpret them in practical terms as a constant rate of change and an initial value.
-
Use the slope formula to compute the slope of a line through two given points and use it, together with a point, to find the equation of a linear function.
-
Graph a linear function given its equation and recognize constant functions and horizontal lines as having slope \(m=0\) and vertical lines as having undefined slope and not representing functions.
